Level 20 is going to bring a lot of things for Ryu that I've been waiting for pretty impatiently. A second costume slot for story, Stamina to help his endurance issues, SOs to help all his powers...
Yeah, I know. IOs are "better", but to me, they're still a huge pain in the neck. I don't like bidding when I could be buying. I don't like wasting time inventing. I don't like trying to figure out which set will give me the bonuses I want/need. I don't like waiting for someone to put the set piece I want up for sale. I don't like the mentality the invention system has brought to the game.
Sorry. End rant.
In any case, my original point. The closer we get to 20, the longer it seems like it's taking to get there. I'm still fine-tuning the mechanics of playing Ryu. Trying to figure out the best way to fight with him. Do I let the pets do all the fighting while I buff/debuff? Do I join in the fray? Meanwhile, it seems like my teammates have their stuff all figured out already.
I've got a number of character-development ideas and story and background waiting at the gate for Ryu, most of it waiting for that second costume. It's getting hard to wait for that moment, and I'm worried in my anticipation, I'll let too much fly out all at once, saving nothing for later.
Bleh. I hate waiting.

A story like this is like fine chocolate, you want to eat it all at once but you want to savor it at the same time. I'm horrible at keeping things close to the chest (::coughblogcough::).
I haven't necessarily "figured out" how to use Bomber. But I've seen Bloodshot and other AR/Traps users in action, and I'm using a lot of their methods. I'm still having trouble with the Triage Beacon (Drop it when eveyone starts failing? Drop it before a large mob? Drop it after I pull?) - that beacon needs a name. I'm still trying to figure out Harvey's range. I'm starting to depend on George a lot and plan on sloting it with uber-defense.
If you really want training IO's, just set a cheap 50-infamy bid and wait. As it is I have a rare IO recipe that's gone for 1.5 mil and I can't put it up because I don't have enough to give to the auction house to do it. (Buggers get me coming and going - it's highway robbery, I tell ya. /short rant) I like the mix and match - but I won't do it for all my characters. This way it won't get me more confused than I already am.
Possible longer post regarding capitalism forthcoming.
I'd say: do NOT craft IOs. It's *expensive*.
Example: I can buy an lv 10 accuracy IO for an average 1k inf. If you look at the price to craft it, it's 7k (if I'm not mistaken). Not considering the salvage you'd have to buy (if you don't have it already).
Now, unless you're looking for sets (which I personally won't give a glance until level 30 or so), you can craft the enhancement (if it belongs to a set) and try to sell it. But this is risky. I got plenty of influence with Frost doing that in the beginning of i9, but people seemed to have figured that they can pay cheaper buying the recipe and the salvage separately, and craft the enhancement themselves. Bummer. :P
If you're going to buy SOs (don't hit me just now), don't buy them from stores - place bids on them. ;) But since you don't like waiting...
I don't think I'm going to buy SOs ever again. I have some of my powers slotted with lv10 IOs. And with Kain close to level 20, I don't bother replacing them, because they don't expire. I don't feel the urge to replace all my "red" SOs every 5 levels - and wasting an uber amount of inf on upgrading. Instead, I buy lv 10 IOs to start up, and when I hit, like, 17, I buy lv20 IOs, and the next thresold (am I using this term correctly here?) will be probably at level 32 (lv35 IOs). And not *losing* efficiency as I level up. And all for much cheaper prices than DOs and SOs.
I always thought the whole concept of enhancements was kind of wrong, and the devs stated that once in their comments about how they want the IO system to operate. It's frustating to gain a new level and *lose* efficiency (from your SOs going yellow or red), not to say that upgrading *all* your enhancements every 5 levels can be tiring. In my opinion, the IO system is pretty much how the whole enhancement system would be, since the beginning of the game.
Recommendations:
- don't craft;
- don't look for sets - they're not worth at low levels;
- don't buy SOs from stores ;)
- be patient (and get bidding already!) :P
You'll see the difference in your infamy in the long run. I'd never manage to get almost 200k on a lv17 character if I had to buy DOs for 12~15k each; I'd be broken in no time. When playing Frost at the mid-30's, I was spending almost 1mil upgrading all his powers every 5 levels.
Breathe. Concentrate. And hit that "Make Offer" button. Practice. You can do it. You *will* do it. You will get used to it... like a second nature ;) /end hypnosis
