Free Server Transfers!

When I first heard about this Christmas present from the devs, I was excited. Then a little bummed 'cause I paid to transfer Ken (Sleetsquall, ice control/kinetics controller). Then, the more I thought about it, the more I realized that nearly all my alts on other servers are single-digits levels or barely over 10 at most. Easily just re-created rather than transferred. We'll see, but for now, I'm thinking of 2 transfers:

Ryu Tatsu (ninja/trick arrow mastermind)
Guardian --> Virtue

Butcher of the Pit (dual blades/fiery aura brute)
Triumph --> Virtue

Of course, that means I'll need to either axe a couple characters... or go ahead, break down, and buy another pack of slots for Virtue. Since I already have plans for 3 new characters when Going Rogue is live, I think I'll just buy another 5 slots for Virtue.

...oh, you want to know what the 3 new characters are? Sure: Praetorian EVAC, a Vagz to visit Praetoria with, and Praetorian Will. I'm not deciding on powersets yet 'cause I'm thinking we'll see more proliferation, but E and Will will probably be corruptors (Will might be dual pistols). For Vagz, I'll have to decide between corruptor and dominator, but there will likely be fire and/or electricity in the powersets.

About the Butcher

The demon known as the Butcher of the Pit is a master of torture and interrogation. His specialty is dealing with those damned souls who believe they are in Hell unjustly. Therefore, his best "clients" are those who are self-righteous, want to take over the world, or otherwise believe that they know better than everyone else. He has also, in the past, been in charge of interrogating prisoners in the War, including angels who managed to be taken prisoner.

He basically has the Hellish equivalent of an office job. He is not a front-line warrior or a tactician. He knows very little about the human world or Above except what he has heard or read in demonic texts. He does not know how to read any human languages, but he has learned angelic script.

He was raised to the material world by the Circle of Thorns, but in my mind, whoever called him up didn't know what they were doing. I haven't decided the specifics yet, but I imagine he was called on by mistake. The person who did the summoning may have read what his job was and misunderstood. Or possibly they were trying to summon someone else and got "Butch" by accident. He does enjoy spreading chaos and mayhem, ferreting out information, and tempting people to evil, but [SPOILER] only because he's never been given the opportunity to do so before. He's having a bit of fun with it all primarily because it's new to him. He may seem a little "all over the place" because of it, not really focusing except when he is being asked to find out secrets. [END SPOILER] He is naturally curious, which can and probably will get him in trouble. He's also pretty talkative in general, partly out of this same curiosity and partly because when he talks, it gets others to talk, sometimes letting secrets slip... >:)

As I was coming up with his personality and role, I started to realize that he could really be a hero just as much as a villain. While it's true that he's a representative of the Pit, his job is to punish those who have done wrong. And oddly enough, he could very easily be turned from a Dual Blades/Fiery Aura brute into a Fire/Dual Blades tank. It would cost him damage, but from an RP standpoint, it would make sense. It may be something to toy with in the future, especially since Evangeline could also be translated fairly easily from a Sonic/Kin corruptor into a Kin/Sonic defender. Unfortunately, since this would cost both of them damage output, they'd likely need to be teamed with a blaster to compensate.

Now Playing

Well, it's been a while since I made a genuinely relevant post. New job in November, holiday stuff, personal stuff, and actually playing the game have all conspired to make getting in here and putting in the time to write something tricky. But here I am. :)

Dual Blades is an awesome set. It has its drawbacks mechanically, but it's fun to play and fun to watch. Right out of the gate, Fyre and I created a pair of Dual Blades/Willpower scrappers. Mine, Blood Crucible, was an almost-direct port of the character I created on Test. He's a bit over-the-top, being a true-blue hero type, raised with classic heroic morals. His family have all been heroes, sword-makers, and dabblers in magic. One of his ancestors, he already let slip with one of his costume choices. He's trying to keep a secret identity which makes some of the RP difficult, but I enjoy his character. I tried to intentionally make it so that he'd get along with just about anyone, but it seems to backfire every so often. Maybe I just need more story for him. I dunno. I'd like to see BC and Jez Cavell just talking more, but I'm not sure how to get that rolling, either.

But BC is on the shelf at the moment. During the holidays, I had some solo time, and just for a lark, I rolled up a DB/Fire brute. I started throwing together demonic costume pieces I've never used on any other character, and I came up with a semi-horror name, Butcher of the Pit. I got him to level 3, and something else came up, so I left him.

In a moment of boredom, altitis, or something else (I'm not quite sure what it was), Fyre put together something to run with "Butch": an angel she named Evangeline. Keen joined us with a kind of killer tree-hugger (eco-terrorist, might be a better word), and all of a sudden, something I created just for the hell of it (ha!) has become a lot of fun. The demon and angel, even on opposite "sides", have a lot more in common than either would be willing to admit. They have interesting conversations, and I am having a blast being a brute now that I have Stamina to keep me going from fight to fight.

Now I want to start looking at unlocking weapon options for Butch. I'd like his knives to be something more... wicked-looking. Cruel. Barbed, maybe... >:)
